Rumours and Homebrews
People are talking about a 'Super Smash Bros. DS' and some german guy has apparently been making a homebrew called 'Super Smash Bros. Rumble' or something and I wanted to ask if you guys think that it is possible for an official DS SSB game and what limits it could extend to. For e.g. How many levels and characters? and how good would the graphics and gameplay quality be? And it would definitely need Wi-fi and Multi-Card play types.
Please share your thoughts on this subject.
(Sorry if there's already a topic on this here but I searched and couldn't find any, if there is I suggest the search function needs some reworking done, no offence guys but I've had this problem before.)

The DS does have the capability to play games around N64 quality. Multiplayer would have to be handled by wifi and local, of course.
That said, I doubt this is real.

We all know of your problems with the search function... No worries, I don't remember any Smash DS thread, just singled out comments. My opinion about Smash DS: Yes, please. The DS has handled graphics far superior to the ones needed on a Smash game. Hardware is not a problem. It might be a little limited in regards of characters and stages. Maybe they could make it so only characters who participated in a portable N console can enter? They could finally make a Smash game with more than 4 simultaneous players. That's all for now.

What kinda list would we be talking about, 10 - 15 characters consisting of: Mario Luigi Peach DK Bowser Yoshi Link &/or Toon Link Zelda Samus &/or Zero Suit Samus Wario Some pokémon, Pikachu/Jigglypuff Maybe some more?? I dunno these are the only ones I could think of on a DS game that have been featured in brawl or melee or 64. Maybe they could make a remake of Super Smash Bros. 64 with a few more characters and levels, seeing as the DS did that much better with Super Mario 64 DS.

I think they will remake the original Smash Bros. and add a few characters, maybe Falco, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers, Marth, Peach, and Zelda/Sheik (I choose these because they appear in both Melee and Brawl) and also add the new modes from Brawl and Melee. Wi-fi enabling is a must as well. The stages will probably be small, and the effects rendered in 2D. They probably only bring back these stages from the N64 version: Peach's Castle, Congo Jungle, Planet Zebes, Yoshi's Island, Dream Land, and possibly Saffron City. The rest seem too big for the DS. I don't think we should expect that many stages or characters, but possibly expect the N64's smashes and gameplay engine to Brawl standards and the character models basic appearance with not better graphics, just newer designs. Maybe. And go German guy! I want to play Smash on my DS, and if Nintendo won't do it, somebody has to.

I don't really think they would have more than 4 players. Seems like too many players would be beyond the capabilities of either stage capacity or device rendering (lag).

Yeah, I think 4 would be too much for a SSB game, it would kinda break the tradition of a 4 man fight in a SSB game as well. When I talked about Multi-Card play + Wi-fi I meant, you and your friend can connect to Wi-Fi while in a group so u don't get split up into different matches or something.

It wouldn't have Lucario.... I don't think it would be a very good game, actually. I just don't think a game like smash bros. would work on a portable.
Besides, didn't they say they were done making smash bros. games?

Sakurai is always done."Kirby Super Star is the last Kirby game for me!" Yet Kirby went on, even without. "Super Smash Bros. Melee is the last Smash game for me!" Then Iwata ropes him into Brawl. "Super Smash Bros. Brawl is the last Smash game for me!" ....guess what is going to happen? Yeah, I knew you would.

I would love to see a 2D smash brothers fighter. I think that would be awesome.

IGN: We think one of the obvious next steps for Smash Bros. is a Nintendo DS game. The fighter seems perfectly suited to the handheld. What're your thoughts about such a project?
Masahiro Sakurai: Seeing the success that Brawl has had with the Wii remote being playing sideways, I don't think that there are control limitations that keep it from being ported to the DS. But I personally have no plans to do this myself. If, in the future, such a thing was to be planned, it would be up to Nintendo to decide how and when and in what way they would like to create that sort of game.
That's part of a 2 page interview about brawl on IGN. http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/853/853748p1.html

Why not? Lucario is purely handheld. Anyway, Smash can never be over. It must always go on. And BTW, of course a Smash DS would be a S64 remake, considering Melee and Brawl are remakes, one way or another.

Yeah, SSB Rumble is real. It's a homebrew that's being worked on. They have an official forum and everything if you care to find it.
