Maybe this occurred to some of you. Maybe it hasn't, but the thought just came up in my mind just now. I personally believe that Super Metroid was intended to be the last Metroid game, and this is why the Super Metroid is killed off. You can't have a game without Metroids if the game is about Metroids, right? Well, in Metroid: Other M, I don't think Samus is going to encounter any Metroids. This would mess with Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, since Samus isn't aware that Metroids are alive in Fusion until after she encounters the Restricted Area. Maybe she had an idea that there was a secret thing going on, since the Biologic Space Labs replicated SR388. That would be the only time she would even think that maybe there were Metroids still living, though.
What's everyones thoughts on this?

Well as I said in one of the other threads about capturing bosses instead of killing them... it's highly unlikely but Nintendo might actually Uncanonize some of the events of Metroid Fusion for the storyline of Metroid: Other M to go smoothly without messing up the plot of Super Metroid - Metroid Fusion.

If you recall from the trailer, the fight with Mother Brain in Super is at least portrayed in FMV, with the Super Metroid in it, so it is possible that you get to fight Metroids at least in the beginning. Other than that, though, I doubt that there will be any Metroids throughout the rest of the game.

Metroids are present in Metroid Fusion, which ends up being a rather vexing little twist. Other M may hopefully explain this, meaning that Metroids may very well be present in that game as well.

Those Metroid's were clones though. While I have a feeling Nintendo is not going to abandon the creature "Metroid", it would be nice to be able to move away from the actual creature and on to the "ultimate warrior" translation that we now know it means from Fusion, but I believe that may only happen if a game after Fusion occurs. I'm sure they will be there though. I'd be highly surprised at this moment in time and knowing where it lies in the time line if it didn't. I'm not gonna include Hunter's in this as that happened in a different galaxy (If I remember right) and with the trailer footage, I'm sure they will make an appearance.

There has been a Metroid game that has moved into the "ultimate warrior" definition. It just is not screaming it out to fans. I do, however, want to see the "ultimate warrior" definition become more of a focus point in Metroid games instead of the actual creatures.
You know, considering that, under this new definition, Samus really is "the last Metroid," I expect the game that will take place after Fusion will feature all the Space Pirates, other Hunters, and maybe even the Galactic Federation trying to capture Samus in order to extract the Metroid DNA in her body and revive the species. The game may never even have to feature any real Metroids in the course of the plot.

there is no need to capture Samus, the Galactic Federation already has Metroid DNA, remember, that's how they saved her at the beginning of fusion and pirates don't need it either as they seem to be able to clone metroid's pretty easily. I'm sure they have the DNA as well.

There's a problem if Metroids are in the game. The last Metroid is dead. Samus learned that the Galactic Federation are cloning Metroids in Metroid Fusion. Also, I've never played Metroid Prime: Hunters. Are there Metroids in that game?

I didn't think so. But that was Retro Studios, so I don't know.

Not quite -- Hunters was produced by NST; Retro Studios only played an advisory and art direction role.
