Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?I suppose it would give us answers... but if people don't like Metroid enough to bother with it, they're not going to want to take a survey on why they don't like it. They'd rather be playing football and slapping each other's butts.

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?Well, I've explained to you why I like Zelda more than Metroid - but I highly doubt that I'm typical in this regard.
Moreover, I'm not the person you want to fathom, because although Zelda is my favorite series, I obviously like Metroid as well. I'm not the reason why Metroid sales are down. |

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?YES YOU ARE! You and the rest of you tunic wearing prancing fairies! Convert I say!

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?Hey, whoa! I'm a Zelda fan, too! But I still own Fusion, Corruption, and Hunters, and I used to own Echoes until it mysteriously vanished, I've preordered MPT, and I'm looking forward to MOM almost as much as ZWii. Hmm... Now that I think about it, I really don't have enough Metroid games... But then, I don't own all of the Zelda games either. Although there are a lot more of them.

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?
Infinity's End has admitted to like Zelda more than Metroid (though only slightly). You're not alone. Just because I like Metroid more than Mario or Zelda, it doesn't stop me from joining Mario and Zelda forums if I wanted to. But I don't really want to join another forum. The MDb is awesome.

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?Yeah, I like Mario and Zelda but I prefer Metroid as my all time favourite series.
But then again, I'm into a lot of gaming genres. |

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?1. Some people only play Metroid because samus is a *Hot Chick* and then leaves it be.
2. Nintendo's marketing technique sucks. 3. Nintendo never gave Samus the spot she needed. 4. Nintendo never showed Samus Aran in an anime or anything, only mangas wich weren't accessible for all. -- NOW YES ( THANK YOU MDB ) 5. Metroid never sold in toys for kids. 6. games are too hard for those who wants to *start* the series, they get stuck somewhere 7. Nintendo does not give Samus enough -Characterization-. she sadly shows a small bit of personality and its hard to do so with such a small spotlight. 8. its intimidating, WAIT WHAT DID YOU SAY VEXAN? 9. a few fan sites? Yes of course, seriously, can there be any metroid site that can stand against MDB? its the master Metroid fan site, no one can compete against that. 10. Some players start Metroid expecting an full action game like Megaman X, where you simply run to a bosses door and beat him without any puzzles. 11. OTHER M, is going to be what we needed, every single Metroid fan out there, watch closely, Nintendo's coming with something big, they realized it was time to evolve, they'll start to make with Metroid what it really deserves to be, Give our Dear Samus Aran the spotlight she always deserves as one of the best video game characters ever, ''The Lady of video games'' Last edited by Vexan on 07.25.09 4:48am, edited 1 time in total.

And that's coming from you. Ok, I lol'd. But you did make a lot of good points there. |

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid? So you think I only play Metroid because samus is a good looking female character? then you are wrong. it wouldn't be worth it.
let me tell you that I started playing Metroid thinking Samus was guy, and then -learned- she was female. and I'm no temporary Metroid gamer let me remind you. so its not like I play it and then *Leaves it be*. I've always seen myself as a pretty decent metroid fan, buying every game I could and beating them over and over again. mostly super metroid. Out of the Shadows come : A Huge Metroid Fan

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?
No no no, you got me totally wrong. It's just the way you emphasized *Hot Chick* as if you're saying that you do not think so or in a sarcastic comment. Even when it's on your Av/Sig. |

Re: Why don't enough people like Metroid?Siiigh. Let's respond to this enumerated post.
1. Uh, no. That doesn't make sense. 2. Granted. Everyone knows this. 3. Also granted, but also, after the death of Gunpei, Nintendo probably felt little motivation to continue the series. 4. Ok, that doesn't make sense, and would only satisfy the nerds anyway. Probably like yourself. 5. Uh, that's probably dealing with marketing, and I think there has been Jap-only toys. 6. This alone is probably the biggest reason. For the gamer, there is really no easing in to a Metroid game, as often, you are right away dropped into the middle of nowhere and have to find your way around. 7. Because Mario is overflowing with character, right? 8. Uh, most people play a single-player game by themselves. I mean, I'm pretty sure they do. And no one in this day and age starts with the NES game of a series to figure out the whole thing. That's just stupid; even less people would play Metroid. Or Zelda, for that matter. The series may not be for your Cooking Mama gamer, but it's hardly as 'hardcore' as you are making it out to be. This entire point could be rewritten as "I'm an incoherent fanboy" and the point would still be generally gotten across. That goes for a number of these points. I didn't follow Metroid from day 1, and I don't expect any fan (except a few I know who HAVE been around since the NES days) to do the same. 9. What? What does the MDb have to do with anything? Yes, it's a swell site that I visit a lot, but huh? Hoping that they'll give you mod for that comment or something? It- I- it just don't make sense. Again, see point no. 8. 10. And the MMX games are bad (well, the later ones aside)? I hardly think that's a valid reason. 11. cool story bro. Nintendo will never let us down eh? All right, despite that long list of seemingly short substance, he brings up a good point. In Metroid games, there really is not a grace period so to speak. People are usually thrust right into the middle of things and have to find their own way out. This is a love-or-hate game design. My first game was Prime, and I had to start it 3 times before I really fell in love with the game. I can assure you, the first two times, I hated the game because you had no clue what to do or where to go. I believe the first time I got lost in the Magmoor caverns shortly after beating the Hive Mecha, and the second time not too much farther. The reason I finally did play and beat it is because I didn't really have any other games to play. If other gamers are pissed with Prime, and buy another game (as other gamers with money are wont to do), then you have a possible reasoning right there.
