Apart from dreaming up something that could have come out of Lovecraft, where did you get that particular image? :p
Apart from the monsters that actually constitute the series' primary villains (metroids, Phazon, X), most of the critters that Samus has to face in her adventures aren't that Lovecraftian. They're just dangerous versions of things easier to imagine.
Of course, your absolutely correct point is that they are indeed dangerous. Samus has to think about the very real possibility of an excruciatingly painful death at the claws of any of a vast menagerie of creatures both sentient and not which she can see. She doesn't have time to worry about nameless phantoms when there are very real things she knows about that can kill her.

I did say that phazon was Lovecraftian. The Ing strike me as different and more conventional, though, although there are elements of the exoticness characteristic of Lovecraft among them, too. You're right I had forgotten about them.
THe native flora and fauna of Zebes I stand my ground, though. Most of the critters on Zebes are imaginative beasts still derived the Earth's flora and fauna. The Crateria and Brinstar monsters are for the most part giant insectoids, insectoids of an unearthly design, but insectoids, something that can be clearly envisioned as working similarly to life on Earth. Norfair has some beasts best described as elemental in nature as if out of some fantasy game, such as magmites and multivolas, but the others are vertebrate-inspired. The things in Maridia are all directly derived from things in the oceans on Earth, and Chozodia I don't recall having much in the way of fauna (apart from space pirates, of course, which are an insectoid race of alien people, again nothing really new there). Most of the fauna of Zebies just isn't bizarre enough to be what I would describe as Lovecraftian - they don't have the wierd abilities, bizarre physiology, or even pose the level of threat that are posed by metroids, phazon, or X.

Except for prime 2 and 3. Their armor and what's beneath it reminded me more of a crustacean than an insect.

I disagree that most of them are Lovecraftian, perhaps they are similar, but that doesn't mean they are based on it. Firstly, H.P Lovecraft is American, Nintendo are Japanese, I doubt they would have ripped it off, also it is very easy to think up ideas similar to someone else. For instance, when people make Rpgs, they don't all copy FF, but they all turn out looking or working in the same way (in most cases), maybe I've misunderstood what you're saying, but there you go. Also, back to the suit and not the habitat, I feel the Morph ball is very possible, but not very useful, but seeing as this is a thread to eliminate what isn't possible, and work out how to design a working power suit from the Metroid games, I think we should plan it out, then leave it and make a list of everything previously described as possible and any plans to make it work. Fin.
Still to complete: Metroid Prime 2: disk is broken... Metroid Prime Hunters: Bored, but almost done Metroid prime corruption: In progress Super Metroid: Started

I honestly don't think that many of Samus' suit's powers are very likely, morph ball included, but they're not far from plausibility that they don't have a place in science-fiction. THe speed booster and ice beam are far more obviously problematic than the morph ball.

Yea, I have seen that picture before. But it doesn't explain how it is controlled.

From her seemingly detached and unaware face, I would say telepathically.

Yes, it was. I don't use much sarcasm with you fellows but I do in RL. I suppose I should use it more often here.

> _ > <_< Ya think? Yah know, you just never know.... The Chozo ghost do create balls of light, and throw them with there hands. Maybe they read minds too. Who knows what power and unique qualities they have or had. But in all good fun, that seemed like sarcasm to me. xD

Sorry, is that sarcasm too? To clear everything up, Yes, it is made pretty clear the Chozo are telepathic.
