New interview: Why no Speed Booster? New Multiplayer game?

Postby ChozoBoy » 09.22.09 1:17am

Ever wonder why the Speed Booster never made it into the Prime series? Want to learn more about the type of game Prime 3 might have been and how the gunship was involved? What is Tanabe's stance on a multiplayer sequel? This interview may shock you!

I think this was posted in another thread, but thanks for making a new one, I didn't get a chance to reply.

I always wanted the speed booster, but then again knew it wouldn't work in 3D. I'm fairly glad they didn't take the Mega Ship Usage path, if I wanted that, I'd go with Star Fox.

I find myself immensely looking forward to Retro's next game. Odd, I've never latched onto a specific company before.

I'm at a point now where I hate reading most game news journalism. and especially internet-based ones. 95% of every single game news journalism article written online is just flat out, poorly written. Just wait til you read my news post I'm about to write... that interview was wretched.

I've grown in my tastes for wanting to read stuff that's actually worth reading.
Unfortunately since most of it is written for those with a 6th grade reading level, it frustrates me to tears when people get interviews with big-name developers and then flub it up as though they're catering to a series of grade school kids. Gaming in general hasn't reached a point yet where its mainstream journalists can actually write towards an adult, and mature demographic. Watch G4 for 5 minutes to see what I mean.

There needs to be a Roger Ebert, Gene Siskel, and Michael Phillips of the video-game review world.

Well that's very doubtfully going to happen. Mainly because everyone uses their own stupid little scoring system and everyone doesn't know how to review games properly b/c they're not game makers. They just talk about their experience with the game and usually take very little consideration about the development of the game.

One of the best "game journalists" I've found is The Artful Gamer. His writing skills are really good, but he doesn't really do reviews, mostly just thought provoking writings on the industry.
Read his article about NEW New Game Journalism. You'll see where I get most of my ideas from.

Yeah, that guy's good. Escapist had decent articles from time to time, but I've stopped reading them (and now they're shockingly mainstream). Gamasutra has in-depth interviews and articles, but neither of these does reviews. Greg Costickyan went on a rant about how game reviews suck, but his site 'Play This Thing' doesn't have detailed reviews (or analyses rather). HG101 covers classic games, so not recent ones either. One of my friends is writing a review for Crispy Gamer, but I haven't checked them out myself. He writes well, too, so I pay attention! (It's going to be a review of Scribblenauts if you're curious).

Ebert hates videogames and claims he would rather have his teeth pulled or watch the Super Mario Bros. movie before he plays another game. He wrote ONE review in his life, back in 1993 or something, about a Myst-style game set in feudal Japan.

I think good game journalism should be insightful and trying to understand why something sucks or is awesome rather than just saying so (oh yeah, AND having a good editor). It should take into account other games in the genre or related titles and it should ask what this game does for gaming as a whole. But these aren't necessarily reviews - a review is just whether or not you should buy something.

I would love a multiplayer game, hopefully online. But really what could you do with a Metroid type mutliplayer? Space Pirates, Federation Troopers, Bounty Hunters.. All playable? Or what? The Echoes multiplayer didn't really have much variety but I guess it was really just to experiment on how people liked it or something. It would explain why they had it in just Echoes, I guess. Then again my ignorance may precede me and there is something I don't know about so... Ya.

Forgive me EI, for I speak the truth. - If however there was a "Metroid Multiplayer" game, we would hear quite a few comments regarding it being a, "Halo rip-off". Yet again, I speak the truth, this wasn't for ranting.

EDIT: Nice new Sig, Infinity's End. :awesome:

Hunters was a better attempt for multiplayer than Echoes for sure. At least IMO it is.

Of course. Echoes was probably a reference on how Hunters would work. When they noticed it was good, they made a full multiplayer for DS.

You know, I think a Hunters 2 for the Wii wouldn't be so bad after all.

Well, I think it could work quite well. As a full online multiplayer game on the Wii and lots of customization options, levels, modes etcetera, rather than a story mode. I think the multiplayer was the 1 thing Hunters got perfect, but on the Wii there is so much room for improvement. I would love this to happen! :D

What I didn't like is all the hunters were basically the same, just different weapons and appearances. They all had their secondary stage. (Morph Ball.) Its just like comparing Wolf, Falco, and Fox in brawl they are all mostly the same just a few differences.
