Rofl. I can't time things quite that well. I'm just really poorly coordinated (I'm a girl. I grew up on games, and yet I can't get stuff like that down. My brothers were pretty good at that stuff though.). I just find a rhythm, so it just takes me a little longer to do it. But once I find the rhythm, I have no problems bomb jumping from the landing site to the reaches of the sky. :D I just haven't figured out the rhythm for Fusion or ZM yet.. and I've sat for probably 10 minutes trying. It's definitely not the same as SM. ^_^

You can't bomb jump in Fusion.

Zero Mission is fairly easy to bomb jump in, you just kind of lay a bomb half way through each jump. To diagonal bomb jump, you use the sam timing, but start to the side of the first bomb. Then just hold back in the direction of the bomb so you fall back onto each bomb as you lay it.

Honestly, compared with Zero Mission, the controls for bomb jumping and wall jumping in Super just feel clunky and awkward.

Seriously? ....How absolutely annoying. :( But it does explain why I couldn't get even a little additional air after so long. Fie on Fusion. Fie, I say!

I'm going to go cheer myself up with SM now. -grumps-

Edit: Okay, so I started up a 100% run to see how fast I could get it done (as that was the original intent of this thread) and I have got to express my steaming frustration at myself because suddenly I'm inept at wall jumping now. >_< I haven't had this much trouble getting to the spring ball in years. And no, it's not because of the Menus at the top of that shaft. I just can't seem to land the last kick off the wall at the top. Argh!

Edit 2: So I take a minute to get the frustration out of my system (and rest the cramp I was getting in my hand...) and I make it. -_-;

Edit 3: Time: 2:56 Item Collection: 100%

I wish I could screenshot this for posterity. It's definitely my personal best ever. :D

Heck, I got all the bomb jumping I needed in ZM by just mashing the button.

I can finish the game in under 2 hours with 100%. It's generally around the 1:55-1:58 mark. Sequence breaking with wall jumps and machball helps to get some items early and out of the way. I can't bomb jump to save my life though.

My best time for 100% item collection in Super Metroid is somewhere between 1:30 and 2:00. I can't remember exactly (I think my pre-Mother Brain save is at like, 1:17 or something though, so not much higher than that, I'd imagine.) Not an amazing time by any means, but I certainly felt accomplished when I finally achieved a sub-2 hour completion time. I wonder how fast I could do it if I didn't bother with 100%? (I collect everything every time I play Super Metroid. I just can't accept anything below 100.)

Super Metroid is actually the only game I enjoy playing as quickly as possible. Even games I like more than Super Metroid. I just can't stand to attempt anything remotely similar to a speedrun on anything else.

I'm pretty much mastered bomb jumping and wall jumping in Super Metroid I love the game. My favorite thing to do it use the space-time beam. I can never time things right to do a mach ball though. :( The two times I did, I did I to skip spore spawn by getting super missile early, and to get the ice beam right when I entered Norfair.

Murder beam on mother brain is fun :)

Tried and beat Super metroid redesign, but there a bunch of things I wish it hadn't changed in the game mechanics. Gravity, how the bombs worked. The Hell run through norfair >:(

I play through super Metroid once a year at least. I have not done a 100% speed run yet, and have not had the time to practice in a while. My best speed run is 1:12 with a very small Item percentage. (I can't remember it at all since I was going for completion and not items, I skipped items on purpose.) I never use glitches and I play on my SNES. The only way I can think of to make it faster is the wrecked ship shine spark technique. I have never been able to pull it off though :(

I've beaten it at 2 hours and 30 minutes with nearly every item. Yeah I know, that's nothing compared to what some have gotten it at, but well, that's my record. And I think I've passed it like 30 times now. There was this one week were I passed it three times in a row.

First time I played it through I got about 70%, at about 6 hours, or possibly more. I love that game. XD

I finally dug out my old SNES the other day and started an SM game... bumbled my way through rather well - still even remembered the "bugzapper" trick for Draygon.

Gonna need to consult some walkthroughs to get all the e-tanks and missles, but otherwise I'm doing pretty good - and yes, I'm nostalgia-ing like a sumbiatch. <3 <3

Really, if you know where the items are, a step-by-step walkthrough is not really necessary. Yeah, there are some tricky/obscure items (Trickiest being the Missile Tank in main avenue Maridia that requires charging a speed booster in the next room over, then quickly positioning yourself and shinesparking up), but if you've done the method once, maybe twice, then all you really need is a map to remind you "ah yes, there's an Energy Tank in this room."

Try this map, (Which if GameFAQs doesn't allow hotlinking to is Zeric's map) it's uncluttered, and doesn't actually reveal much in the methods of getting items.

Simple reminders will help you enjoy an old game better than mindlessly following a walkthrough will.
