I'm wondering about that and if anyone sees where I'm coming from.
They said in the text the herbs 'enhance' their ability, so I started thinking that the herbs might be some sort of a drug.

No, I think they mean it's more like berzerker mushrooms - it puts them into a fighting frenzy. Wouldn't be surprised if it enhanced their reaction times, too.

The Chozo mental block probably wasn't something they have naturally, since they used to make weapons and armor. (Unless they fought robots...) Might have even coincided with MB's creation.

Meanwhile, guys, get over the 'sex symbol' discussion. Like the overwhelming majority of young protagonists in fiction, male and female alike, Samus is made out to be attractive. There is nothing wrong with this, provided that there are other elements to her character than just her looks - and there are.

Link doesn't get this kind of attention being called a sex symbol, and yet there are more than a few female gamers who think he's attractive.
