Well, I've looked all this over and the trailer has me hyped up! But.. there IS one thing that is bothering me.
So far, THIS game, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid prime 2 have all done it.
What is it?
Metroid Other M: When we played Super metroid the first time through without any skipping item tatics... Samus had the Gravity Suit on, NOT the varia, yet she's shown in ONLY the varia in the cutscene.
Metroid Fusion: Once again, we had the Gravity Suit when we finished that mission in Super Metroid, so why does Samus and the SA-X have all her powers, EXCEPT the gravity suit?
Metroid prime 2: Similar thing, when Metroid prime rips the phason suit off of samus, she doesn't degrade to varia, she ends the mission with the Gravity suit...
Anyway, sorry for the rant, but it's what's puzzling me.
All things happen sooner or later, but one must remember, later always becomes sooner. - Me

Wow! I never noticed that. Hay guiz, why does Samus not have all her abilities at the start of games?
This was sarcasm, everyone. Sarcasm.

I've heard that you can do a Gravity-less run. (But wouldn't it still show Gravity in the ending image?) I imagine that Samus did the fastest possible run though Super!

100% gameplay purposes, absolutely no story element. Seriously, a Metroid game starting with overpowered Samus would be lame.

FAN THEORY BS TIME
Each gravity suit is only suited for the gravity of the specific planet where she found it! If she wears it off the planet or on another planet, it could possibly crush her alive!
Or something.

So why didn't she use the Gravity Suit she got in ZM for Super? Or the one in M2 for Fusion? And why start with plain Power Suit in Super? Gameplay purposes, I tell you.

You'd want to start each game with a bunch of upgrades? I think it's much more fun to find them. Besides, it wouldn't work even if the developers wanted to; they'd have to know in advance the timeline of the entire series.

OBVIOUSLY she can only store one Gravity Suit at a time, or the power suit gets confused! OBVIOUSLY.

I always wondered what happened to all those energy tanks, personally. Maybe she sells them? Like black market livers or something.
What's the protocol for selling priceless Chozo artifacts?

I have to agree with this answer. Another reason to why did might have done this is because everyone else who isn't really a Metroid fan, all tend to like Samus in her Varia suit. It's a classic, and they probably got lazy and wanted to feature that suit in the game. Who knows… maybe they forgot that she had on the Gravity Suit during that cut scene.

Same reason the different Links loose all of their equipment and start with nothing or a different sword and shield (depending on the Link). To make the game fun.
Starting overpowered and have nothing to collect=a very bad game that the developers of should be shot.

One would think she can convert upgrades back into tiny statues and leave them at home for further use. And it doesn't explain the Varia situation! And hey, she does start with the Long Beam in all games except the first/Zero Mission.

Actually, I think that's because most Links are different people entirely.

But there are sequels involving the same Link from the previous game and he either starts the second game with nothing or just a sword and shield.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. However, I think there is a limited number of upgrades you can have at the start of a game. Kind of like how Mega Man has the dash ability as well as all the armor he picked up in earlier games or Samus starts with the morph ball and jump ball in Prime 2 and 3. The other side of it is that with so many abilities, it would become impossible to learn how to play the game. That's another reason you get abilities one at a time, and only after the developers determine you should have mastered the previous one
The sleep of Reason produces monsters.
