I know this is going a ways back for some people, but how many of you remember your completion time for your FIRST play through of Super Metroid?
I'm sure most of us can beat the game in 2-3 hours no sweat now, but there's nothing like that first run... Getting lost, not knowing wtf you're supposed to do, wondering why Golden Torizo keeps eating your super missiles, and cursing that hidden wall that the X-Ray Scope doesn't pick up... Subsequent play throughs are never the same.
As for my first play through, my time was a pathetic 11:30. But what a glorious 11 hours it was... What was your first time?

...probably about 11 hours. Then after that I got 3-5 hours every time.

First time?
I think 5:46... or 4:46... One of those two. I can't remember.
SM was the last Classic Metroid game I played, so I knew what the name of the game was by then.

6-10 hours, I'd say. Don't remember the completion % though.
I heard Metroid is a girl! Is that true???

24 hours + some minutes. I got lost for the longest time before I stumbled across the x-ray visor.

For me, I was stuck in lower Brinstar and couldn't get back up the big vertical shaft in the red area, and I couldn't bomb jump well enough to get past the blue monster thing on the way to Kraid, and I didn't discover the High-Jump Boots until after I ordered and received the player's guide through Nintendo Power. Which took a week, at least. I think I still managed 100% for it. I also had to have my little brother beat all the bosses for me because I got too jittery about it. Fun times.

There were two other things that killed my time. 1. The fact I didn't realize you could 'dash' (no i didn't read the manual ) which caused me to continously fall through the breaking blocks in that one brinstar area before the red shaft. 2. And the discovery of the high jump boots took me a while to. Both of those added at least an hour, possibly a little more. I also got lost in Maridia a couple of times. I didn't have a very good sense of direction then, it was my first Metroid

I guess I shouldn't laugh, considering Prime 1 and 2 (my first real Metroid experiences) both took about 23-24 hours a piece.

Reason I got at least 11 hours was because I went through Maridia to get to the Wrecked Ship...
Oh god.
Now that I think of it, all of my Metroid game first runs were around 11-12 hours too.

Don't remember the exact time but I know I was stuck at the glass tube in Maridia for a long time. I swear I tried power bombing it too. Not sure exactly how to proceed I did a lot of exploring and found a lot of pick ups. I remember it was christmas eve 2001 when I finally blew the thing up. I won the game that night. The sad thing is I STILL had a hard time finding the Ice Spreader in Metroid Prime and you get to that the exact same way you break through that stupid tube.

LOL, I guess I don't feel so bad now seeing others having the same problems I did. Not knowing that you need to dash in that Brinstar room? Check. Wasting time in Maridia without the Gravity Suit? Check. I probably would have been stuck on the glass tube, as well, if the Gametrailers Retrospective hadn't ruined it for me.
The one that really killed me though was that one hidden passage in Lower Norfair that the X-Ray Scope doesn't reveal (you usually encounter it after killing Ridley). By the time I got to that area I was pretty used to relying on the Scope for everything, so I never bothered actually trying to run through the wall. It took me forever to finally get out of that area and I was ready to throw the controller at that point.
As for completion percentage, I don't remember what I got but I think it was somewhere around 60-70%...

I forget my time for my first win. I think it was past four hours, maybe five. Getting the Gravity Suit got me stuck for a bit, and that glass tube had me boggled until I tried a Power Bomb out of desperation. Interestingly, most Metroid games since then have continued to use the ol' Power-Bomb-in-the-glass-tube trick.
My best time was 1:58, mainly because I thought it was two hours for the best ending, and not three. I was still just getting used to the game.
These days, I hold a consistent 2:40 average (with all items).

Yup. Number one hit me, too. I remember feeling pretty stupid, too. I knew I could dash, but it didn't occur to me to dash across those stupid blocks. lol.

jesus christ this. If I recall, it was the only time in Super Metroid where a power bomb drastically affected the game environment. I was lead to believe, up to that point, that power bombs only destroyed small little blocks, not a whole damn piece of scenery. I think my time was 18 hours or so. I have a tendency to go back huge distances just to check out points of interest when I acquire new weapons. Because those extra 5 missiles can SAVE MY LIFE... at some point.
