Re: General Contest ThreadI won third! I'm so happy! I usually never win online contests. Thanks for giving everyone this opportunity and allowing everyone to have a blast to create these metroids! I really enjoy Kevin's metroid including the glowing lights and talons. I also enjoyed Jay's Zeta metroid, Aryn's and Jasmine's metroids as well. Congrats to everone who participated! I'm just disappointed that I didn't get the poster. But I'm still content. Thanks MDb, I hope we see more of these contests in the future!

Re: General Contest ThreadHo. Lee. $#!+. I got second!
I guess my roomies weren't kidding, I must be doing a decent job after all! Congrats to the other winners! I've done a little (VERY little) work with lights, I know what a pain in the @$$ that is, Kevin totally deserves first. And Alvin's giant Bowl-troid is a great desktop piece! I loved a lot of the entries, 'specially Adam's Pillow-troid and Ian's gingerbread cookies . . . Samus has never looked more delicious! And Ricardo's resin Metroid, I almost went that route before I found the glitter balls I ultimately used. BTW, the photo link to Shinespark's K'nex-troid does not appear to be working. Thanks so much, and great job to everyone who entered! Oh, uh, what e-mail do I send my address info to? I replied to the e-mail I received from the contest e-mail address, but it got bounced back. You may be right: the plural of "anecdote" is not "data." But the plural of "you" IS "@$$-holes."

Re: General Contest Thread
You can PM your address to Infinity's End or Capcom (can't remember which one is holding the prizes). And I have reported that shinespark's entry thumbpic isn't working. We'll hopefully get that up soon. Thanks for letting us know. "I authorize full use of the Report Button on the MDb Message Boards." |

Re: General Contest ThreadTo 1st place, grampabird!
I nearly fell off my chair! Your Metroid was unbelievable...! It's made-for-movie quality! Wow... I love it. The details you put into the pincers, the lights inside of the nuclei an vines... wow! I can see that thing sucking someones life energy out. While looking at you entree I was wondering what materials you used to make him. I haven't seen your video, but I plan to when I'm done posting this. I hope you keep making things because you have a great eye for detail and good use of textures and materials. Great job you deserved first place, Congratulations. To 2nd Place, Batman1016! I was amazed I was the different Metroid forms, with such accurately too! I loved the small one in the tank! You did a super job for the Metroid eggs and gravel, it add more depth to your this piece. I love it all... really! Every Metroid has I different feature that I like. Such as the plating armor on the back on the Zeta! Congratulations on placing second, you earned it! To 3rd place, Etecoon! I can see your metroid as really being an art form which I deeply appreciate, it's really a true work of art. I like how it stand on it's claws, it makes yours seem powerful. I also love the inside of your Metroid, the nuclei is wonderfully done. I also couldn't help but notice that you have a Mario hat in some of the photos, I love it! ;D I hope you appreciate your work, I find it be very artistic and beautiful, Congratulations placing third! _______________________________________________________________________ To all the others who entered, I am deeply pleased to see all of your work. I can believe how creative you guys are, the use of materials and concepts are truly remarkable. I'm impressed to say the least of what you all did. All of you are so creative, we had Metroids made out of mental, Metroids created from food (or were food), even ones made out of household products--literary! I saw countless ones your traditional art mediums and legos and tiles, some were made out of an old Nintendo system.... a Gamecube I believe? Now that's unique right there. I even saw a balloon one! Aside from doing the Metroid (me included) some of the entries went and created a Metroid tank, I find that to be lovely. I hope that all of you are proud of your work, just because you didn't win does not mean your Metroid is worth less. Please be happy for what you created and give yourself a pat on the back. I feel deeply enriched that I got to take part in this contest, see all these wonderful entries has got my creative brain flowing again. I would like to thank the Metroid database for hosting this contest I hope that contests will pop up in the future! Till then... See You Next Mission! -Chozochild- |

Re: General Contest ThreadCheers to everybody who participated! My jaw fell when I saw the sheer number of entries that we had received and then it hit the floor at the sight of them! It was a pleasure to look at all of them one by one, and from the chain mail to the Mesh-troid to the Jello molds, there were a lot of really creative ideas. And the sense of humor behind some made me grin.
Also, cheers to Inf for all of his hard work in designing, organizing and leading the contest. It drew in a lot of artistic talent and stirred a lot of creative ideas, and I'm proud that we were able to draw in this level of attention. (Thanks to Stemage for his contributions and publicity, and no thanks to all the major publications that opted not to publicize our request). Congratulations to the winners! -Jesse D

Re: General Contest ThreadWow I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the sheer quality of some of these entries. I actually remember watching Kevin's video before the deadline, thinking if his Metroid doesn't win then someone must have gone and made a REAL life sucking creature
Now that we've finished this contest, the obvious question remains: will there be another? I'm pretty sure the answer's gonna be yes, but what would it be about? Hmm... |
