ITEMS-->FENIX DOWN-->THREAD

I just beat Klonoa (the Wii version). Wow. Video games may not make me cry, but that ending came pretty damn close.

Um, by the way, if you play it on the Wii, do yourself a favor and set the language to Phantomile (the original gibberish-type voices). The English voice acting is atrocious, and makes a complete joke out of what is normally a beautiful ending.

I don't know if I've ever actually cried literally from a game, but I've gotten all choked up and misty at times. Not necessarily from any sad moments, but from just general sentimental games for me, like any retro games really close to me. Earthbound, the DKC trilogy, Mario 64, games that I really associate with nostalgia kind of make me in a crying (in a good way) mood.

I feel kind of horrible because I have both Okami and Wind Waker and I haven't beaten them yet!!
So I'm unable to relate to those endings quite yet.
I noticed most of your posts and how most of your were moved by these ending of these games.
I'll try and beat them as soon as possible.

I think I'm really close in Okami...
I beat Orochi for the 2nd time.
If that helps.

As far as games I've beaten and had an emotional attachment it has to be Twilight Princess.
The music during the credits made me feel a since of happiness and sadness and took me on a journey while the screen showed the events unfold. Yah, I think I might have shed of few tears during the last and final scene... but to me the story is never over. You can enjoy play it again and relive the dream, so it's not all that sad...
I don't want it to be sad. (People who have beat it know what talking about). :)

I agree with IMB706, Super Mario 64 made me so warm and happy when I beat it, it had such an upbeat music during the credits.
It definitely made me feel like I had did something great!
I Loved how he even took the time to personally thank the player after beating it.
I think that's one of the few games that did/does that.
Oh... I how can I forget that famous kiss from Princess Peach?
It made Mario blush so hard, he spun and took off his hat!
I love that game for soo many reasons!!
I want to honor Pokemon: Gold, Sliver and Crystal... the ending was so iconic....the music the pixels --everything!
I always loved the ending to pokemon.... next time you beat it, take time in listening to the 8bit melody.
And DONT TURN it off right away-- you need to wait for the little special music at the end! ;3

It makes me feel happy and emotionally-cherry.

Never actually cried, per se. Choking up happens from time to time though, most recently during Twilight Princess.

As for what game has pushed me closest, this question has come up to me at separate times over the years, and my answer is still the same: Grim Fandango.
There's a minor character that's introduced in year 3 named Chepito. This little guy has been walking around the ocean bed for the last lord-knows-how-many-years trying to find land, but really spent all that time walking in circles since the small lamp he carries doesn't light his way very well. Over and over again, he does this while singing "This Little Light of Mine" in an upbeat way. Anyway, things happen and the game carries on with Chepito in tow all the way to the final year. Almost everyone Manny has dragged along with him to the final station in the Land of the Dead is detained because they made the journey without claiming their tickets for the Number 9 express train. There's a scene that is entirely optional where Manny returns to the station platform fountain to find Chepito walking in circles around the fountain, still singing "This Little Light of Mine". Chepito then explains to Manny that he wasn't detained because he never received a ticket for the Number 9, that he's essentially finished his four-year journey through the Land of the Dead, and the few laps he's done in the fountain has balanced out the years he spent wandering the ocean. He then hops out of the fountain, leaves through the railway tunnel out of the Land of the Dead, singing "This Little Light of Mine" all the while before it fades out completely. He's passed on. He's escaped the Land of the Dead. He's free.
Hits me every time.

Don't usually cry over endings, but the ones that got me a knot in the throat are:

In Okami,
Issun bidding farewell to Amaterasu, the prayers, etc
.

Order of Ecclesia,
Shanoa claiming her emotions back
, also, the end music
didn't help.

kingdom Hearts 358/2 days,
Xion's death and the fact that Roxas' life is but a lie
.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories, the Love Lost ending.

... I dunno about this one, but in Spirit Tracks,
When Byrne dies and Cole is skipping, I wanted to stab the little freak with his own horns so bad...

Not that you need to, considering his satisfying demise.
Most of the ones that get me have already been put forward. Okami's last boss fight and ending; Twilight Princess's... like, entire last quarter, Majora's Mask as a whole; Link's Awakening's ending; Most cutscenes in OoT; actually, I think the good ending of Bioshock choked me up a bit; and of course, Mother 3.

I haven't played Ico, and I haven't beaten SotC. I expect they'll render me incoherent, from what I've heard.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 made me cry.

Maybe because the game is so awesome, you couldn't help but be overwhelmed by its epicness?

I don't think I've ever played a game with storyline material that would make me cry. But I usually get really choked up with nostalgia when I play an old game, especially if it's been a long time. Cuz it puts me back there , where I was at the time.

Like when I play old NES games , it reminds me when I was in middle school and the friends I had then. And playing Mario games with my brother who now lives in Florida. When I play games from the mid-nineties , my kids were in diapers and now they're teenagers. Hell , get teary-eyed thinking bout the old MDb forum and when there were only 3 Metroid games.

Does this happen to any other classic gamers ?

Hmm, i'd have to say in GOW2 when
Dom finds Maria and haves to put her out of her misery. It just sucks that after searching so long, he finds her dead...
Also, in SotC
Agro DIDN'T die, watch the credits...
Well, I'm only seventeen, but until second grade the only systems I had were an NES and a Game Boy, so I get nostalgic over a lot of classic games, even though I wasn't around when they were released. Whenever I play Link's Awakening, the memories come flooding back (granted, that's fairly new compared to most "classic" games).

Also, I just beat Shadow of the Colossus. Wow. Just wow. I came close to crying, let me tell you. For all its flaws, it still strikes me as perfect.

I'm only 20 so what makes me feel nostalgic is somewhat recent. The late 90s and early 00s are the most nostalgic for me, but the early and mid 90s are that special warm and fuzzy nostalgia, if you get my drift. Games like the Donkey Kong Country series on Super NES, Yoshi's Island, Earthbound, Sonic, etc etc make me have a few tears at times.
