Xenoblade- surprisingly cool-looking Wii RPG

Postby Abodos » 02.17.10 6:34pm

Basically, the whole game world apparently takes place on the bodies of two dueling gods in stasis. And no, it's not connected to Xenogears.

Looks really good for a Wii game, question is... how are the controls. Because I don't see how an RPG type can go with the Wiimote. Surely it has nothing to do with motion...

One of those points says that "your character performs attacks automatically," which is the closest thing I can find to a hint about the controls, and I think that's too ambiguous to really make anything out of.

On a different note, they seem to be consciously avoiding dated RPG features such as excessive cutscenes, random turnbased battles, and grinding, which is a pretty good thing in my book.

Wow, it looks gorgeous. I'll probably get it, unless it gets bad reviews or something.

I love the premise of the setting. So creative.

Even though I don't play RPGs, I've been intrigued with what I've seen and heard of it so far. Anyone else notice some of the (current) similarities of the official website and the Other M site? I think both of the sites were launched around the same time.

Wow, the two sites actually have the exact same aesthetic theme. I wonder if Nintendo is doing this as some sort of unique advertising campaign?

Resurrection!!!!!

After getting a bit hyped for Last Story and trying to find infos for Pandora's Tower, I found myself looking into this game a bit more. What I found is that I REALLY WANT THIS GAME!!
From the box art:

Which is beautiful.
To the setting (quasi-futuristic with nature growing over the lost tech). This game looks incredible. And the combat system looks to be pretty interesting as well. We need this game now!

Also keep in mind that they changed the name of this game to Monado: Beginning of the World.

Whelp, might as well have a full topic devoted to Xenoblade, and Xenoblade only.

(Looks down at The Last Story/Monado Topic, which might as well focus on The Last Story at this point)

I'll write a little response there soon, my little baby...I promise.

Ah, sorry, my brain slightly faltered on me in my haste to post. I just searched the forums for "Xenoblade" and this topic popped up. :/

And Monado just really doesn't seem like a good fit as a title for this game. I know that Monado is the name of the sword that the hero wields throughout the game, but Xenoblade just sounds and looks so much more... cool. -_-; (It seems seems to fit more with the quasi-Scifi aesthetic of the game to me.)

No, no, it's honestly quite better to have a topic devoted to Xenoblade, since barely a peep of Xenoblade/Monado has been said in the topic I started up.

Oh, and as a little side note, Xenoblade is by Monolith Soft, makers of Xenogears and Xenosaga. Interestingly, it seems that the connection is in name only, so thaat might be why Monado is an alternative possible title. (Though yeah... as boring a name it might be from the company, I think it sounds better as a title).

Anyway, here's one of the gameplay trailers show-casing the overwhelmingly huge environments:

The flip side to all this size and beautiful scenery? That if you take a look at the cutscenes rendered on the in-game engine, the character designs range from "okay" to "what kind of face is that?!"

I know what you mean. Take, for example, the first 10 minutes of the game:

This whole scene just won me over big-time, even after I saw the guy with the claws (who you could tell just from looking at that he was a coward and/or double-crosser).

This is one of those few games that tempts me to actually learn the language necessary to play it NOW.

Well, it is technically STILL on Nintendo's release calendar, so.... that's better than nothing, I guess. Hopefully shouldn't have to worry much more about its chances of release, unless we really don't hear anything after this E3.

And when it comes to the overall "meh-to-bleh" of the character design, I was mainly thinking of the female lead.

And compare this to Xenosaga...:

I'm pretty sure that a whole lot more effort was put into environment and such in Xenoblade (haven't played Xenosaga, but that game's environments aren't as massive and busy, are they?). Xenoblade's lead girl ain't terribad, but still, it's an, uh, interesting difference...

I want this. VERY BAD now. The characters could look better, but I don't want it to turn up like MHTri, just couldn't get into it. I mean, it's beautiful (for a Wii game especially), but......there's no underlying plot of anykind, you just do quests. Just not my thing.

GOOD NEWS for those that live in the UK or have modded their Wiis for PAL imports. Nintendo of Europe has officially announced Xenoblade as Xenoblade Chronicles:

(I know, I know, I posted this earlier, but this is NOE's official, lazy announcement video.)

And here is the official press release:
Nintendo of Europe wrote:Nintendo of Europe can confirm that it will be bringing the epic RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles to Europe for Wii. The title, already launched in Japan, brings to life a universe where two worlds called Bionis and Mechonis fight a war that knows no end.

Join the battle for Bionis to repel the invasion of a terrifying mechanical army and uncover the secrets of a mystical sword called the Monado.

Xenoblade Chronicles will be launching later this year for Wii featuring both English and Japanese voice-overs and will be fully subtitled in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. Keep checking http://www.xenobladechronicles.co.uk for further information on this epic new adventure for Wii

Let this not become like other recent Monolith Soft titles, NOA...
