Rather than a beamsword, I think it would be fitting for Samus to surround her armcannon in a screwattack/speedbooster type energy field and use it like a club.

I've actually wondered what chozo martial arts might look like. Something tells me a lot of standing aloft before suddenly making cobra/mantis like strikes, possibly including the beak as well as limbs.

Perhaps beam sword wasn't the right terminology. Her grapple beam is apparently quite solid, so it's reasonable to assume she could keep it at arms' length and use it as a club or short blade. It wouldn't be a lightsaber or anything, it'd just be a close-range cutting weapon. I'm actually surprised the grapple beam hasn't seen more combat applications, personally. It seems like a weapon with a lot of potential.

I wouldn't really want to see the Grapple Beam as a weapon such as a whip, but maybe something along the lines of grappling enemies and tossing them about, or slamming them into each other, something like that.

You realize that grabbing enemies is one of the uses of a whip. Sure you can slash with it, but wrapping their throat/arms/body gives you amazing control at which point you can just pull them around. It's all about positioning. I think that fits perfectly with the weapon and the theme and Samus' style.

Well, whatever. You know what I mean. And I was always under the impression that whips were used mainly for, y'know, whipping things. But what I'm saying is that I can't see it being used to slash stuff, grab stuff yes. Slash, no.

Well, I was speaking without any research other than watching movies, so I apologize for being self-righteous. I looked around a bit, and from what I've read there are different types of whips for different purposes. Longer whips are often used to grab, grapple, and/or disable an opponent. You can do things such as grabbing a leg to make them fall, grabbing an arm or weapon to disable them, grabbing a throat to kill, or any of that type of grappling maneuver. However, long whips are often hard to use for slashes because of the tendency to wrap. Whips apparently only slash when they are used at the exact maximum of their range. Therefore, they are usually only effective weapons at a distance of 4'-10' depending on the type of whip. A shorter whip more like 4' and sometimes with a small weight on the end can be used to slash or bash an opponent inflicting nasty cuts or knocking them unconscious with a head-shot. However, inside it's maximum range it quickly loses effectiveness and is therefore often accompanied by a shorter range weapon. Commonly, either the whip has a solid long handle which can be used a club/nunchaku or the wielder holds a knife in their off-hand.

So, Samus would have access to all of the above techniques due to the fact that her whip is made of energy. It has been shown to be able to change thickness and length and even to have a small ball shaped tip in Brawl and Super IIRC. I think she could easily use it for grabbing/positioning/disabling/stunning enemies at mid-range and for some minor slashing/knockback at a slightly shorter range. At least that's my take on it.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying Samus couldn't do that stuff, just that I don't know if I'd like the idea of being able to whip your enemies to death. Then again a close range "Fuck Off" kind of melee attack would be nifty if your overwhelmed.

1) Bravez is obviously a spambot, you (Vesko) generally shouldn't reply to those.
2) Why nobody mentioned the Speedrunner's tool of choice (Boost Ball) is beyond me. Yes, it has killing potential. It's not very strong (if at all) in Metroid Prime 1, but it's much more damaging in MP2:E and maybe Corruption.

Crashing into enemies for damage counts as a melee weapon, right?

Since Samus has apparently been doing nothing but watching wrestling since Super ended and has thus taken to suplexing the shit out of every slightly large enemy, I'd say yes.

A melee weapon looks unlikely at this point. Samus is probably just going to capitalize on the fact that her fist(s) and feet are covered in metal, and that crap hurts.

I am going to have to agreed on the melee weapon being like the Zealots/Zeratul from Starcraft. Instead of it being on her arm cannon put it on her left hand.
