It has long been a subject of dispute, and I thought I'd bring it here (don't know if it was on the previous forum). Anyways, just how do you pronounce Samus's name? I've always thought it was SAH-MUS, with the "AH" being pronounced the same way as the "a" in "ball." As for her last name, I think it's AIR-IN.

I've always pronounced it as Sam-us (Sam rhymes with ham, us rhymes with bus) A-ran (A rhymes with uh, ran rhymes with can).

It's simple Japanese. Sah-Moos Ah-Rahn, as far as the pronunciation goes. For English speakers, it gets a bit Anglicized. Sah-Mus Ah-Rahn.

It’s hard to make it out... the lady on the Hunters site is much clearer.

The thing is, though, the audience in that same game pronounces her name the other way.

That's probably because they didn't bother changing that sound effect from the Japanese version of the game, whereas they changed the announcer.

Admiral Dane has a Texan accent. He can't speak
I say it just like the announcer in SSBM. Sah (Shah without the h) mus (musk without the k) [yeah that's a weird pronunciation guide, I know]. It sounds more airy and dignified like that, whereas if you just say Sam (Uncle) us (me and you) it sounds so American and lame. Sa Moose... sounds like a moose. And really dumb, imo.
Zebes is Zeh bees (yellowjackets) [only because that makes Zebesian sound right], Ridley is Ride (word) -lee (Bruce), tourian is Tour (de France) ee an, Metroid is met (see:seen::meet:___) roid (it's a candy I think?) [not Meet roid, silly Irish people).
