Samus's Rank

I was looking at this image when I notice Samus has a badge of some rank on her left shoulder. I look at the US army's list of ranks and it is a Sergeant First Class, if you look at it up side down. Could it be any thing else?

It is completely made up to U.S standards, because you cannot have 2 top stripes and 3 bottom ones, but i would guess in the federation army(if similar to u.s) she is a E7 Sergeant First Class or some made up.
i am a junior U.S air force RTC cadet,
And if you look at japan weare the creators are from they dont have a army only a Self-Defense Force

Yeah, I assumed that her badge used the same ranking system as the US Army: even though it was upside down, Federation Army is away in the future and they probably have totally different names for some ranks.

Anyways, she appears to be some rank of sergeant.

I think we discussed her rank briefly once on some other thread, but I'll be buggered if I could find it again.

I'll just reiterate here what I said there: That after some boredom and a Wiki search, I came to the same Seargent conclusion all y'alls have, and also noted the upside-down stripes. My guess is the designers got inspiration from current military rankings, but changed things just enough (ie. the upside down stripes) so that it would seem less real world and more futuristic. Or they really haven't a clue; as was said, Japan doesn't have an army.

The Japanese SDF does have an insignia system. Although I can't find any equivalent rankings in their forces. The closest is a Master Chief (lol) Petty Officer in the Maritime Self Defense Force.

But honestly, I'd say it looks most like some kind of E7 pay grade ranking, or equivalent thereof.

Conclusion: She is senior enlisted, probably a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO,) and her title possibly includes the word "Sergeant."

The federation marines seem to match more to the u.s marines + samus was federation police.,
Military police? if yes then she is a army e7 but if not the police structure is always different and rank is not important specialy if its not high.

I'd say almost certainly Sergeant. From what's been said, Samus in Other M was in the Federation Army, changing things from the manga where she's in the Federation Police.

All things said, I'm wondering if her rank will even come into play in the game, or even be mentioned. It's entirely possible they threw the stripes on there for flavor. Same goes for the three pins she's got and any other patches/medals/insignias.

Interesting find. You know, a lot of sci-fi treats space like the ocean. You have words used for ships like frigates, cruisers, skiffs. Then you have marines and admirals. But, interestingly, while the Metroid series does follow this trope, it does tend to break away from the idea that space is the ocean. An example would be this one that is being shown right now, and that in the old Metroid instruction manual, you have the Federation Police and Federation Army.

But, interestingly, while the Metroid series does follow this trope, it does tend to break away from the idea that space is the ocean. An example would be this one that is being shown right now, and that in the old Metroid instruction manual, you have the Federation Police and Federation Army.

The Federation might have overlapping military branches. The Federation Army might be the main body of the federation military, built up to attack the Space Pirate threat head on. The Federation Police the more civilian arm dealing with various crimes and rewarding bounties. The Navy and Marines deal with patrolling as much of the Federation air space as possible.

I have a space Sci-Fi story that I writing that might have mixed rank system like this. It is quite a unique way of organizing military.
