Yeah I actually think the artist may have flipped the original image for fear of stealing/plagiarism, etc. It does look like the original was drawn that way (correctly) in the first place.

Cool! It would be so neat if we got some kind of communication going on with the japanese fans. What if they're visiting US and browsing the board in confusion? Glee! It's like communicating with aliens or something. Maybe we should set up a topic for them to visit and try to talk to us/curse at us in japanese. X3

That would be wonderful! ;D I know they deleted my post, but that is because babble fish messed up what I said and that they might have thought I was spamming --I didn't see the 'create' new thread option so I posted on a M:OM thread--Oops!
We need somebody really knows Japanese. We don't want to ruin this-- I hope we can form a good relationship with these fans.

Have you guys started trying to talk to them? We'll never get the scans (or a translation) if we don't ask them if they have any.
Also, who sent you what you have?

I found the MP2 manga some time ago. Don't know where I discovered it, though. I haven't contacted anyone yet. It's VERY difficult to get responses from people when you don't know how to speak/write their native language. Especially one as isolationist as Japan.

Well... translation is a lot easier than composing original text. Particularly if it's in a delicate social situation like introducing yourself out of the blue and trying to get someone to do something for you.

yeah i mean just because one can translate doesn't mean they can go and post on a japanese board and get instant access to the japanese world of Metroid, as nice as that would be. Considering what the MDb has been able to get over the last couple of years from our Japanese counterparts, I'd say we're doing pretty good and the better we get at it, the easier it will be to acquire items

Sure, but this shouldn't be as difficult as going to Pandora to become a Na'vi. I mean, like CC said, Capcom or someone else can communicate with these guys, see if they have the Episode of Aether chapters and if they do, convince them to give them to us.

Ok, ok. I posted on their forum. It's got an odd interface, but at least it's still in use. Most of the fan pages have not been updated in at least a year, if not longer, so the fan community seems limited to the forum only. I introduced myself as part of the Metroid Database and said we were looking for the Episode of Aether manga but couldn't find it. Gave them the dates in which it was published as well as links to the site. I said Western fans want to read it and we would translate it if we could get a copy (more or less said that at least). I believe my Japanese was at least passable http://www2.atchs.jp/metworld/Japan usually wakes up around 6-10PM EST, so I'll keep checking over the next few days.

Patience, young padawan. Their forum is hardly as active as ours.
Sadly, I don't think we can expect a response.
A. I can't write fluently in Japanese. (and if you get annoyed at reading English from a foreigner, then imagine how it must be in Japan) B. Japanese communities are very closed and probably unwelcome to outsiders. C. Especially foreigners. D. It's a very small community. E. The manga really IS incredibly obscure. I doubt anyone on the site has it.
Seriously, the best bet anyone has is to go to the manga museum in Kyoto and pay about $100 to have it photocopied (yeah, it's like $1 per page from what I hear). These are weekly magazines. They have zero resell value, and so when they are finished, they are tossed. You would need to find someone who collects the entire series because finding a loose copy of a particular volume is needle in the haystack.

That would be a no on the manga museum
When I went to the manga museum, the only thing available for viewing was manga that was on the book shelfs, these were all paper back style manga, not magazines.
The magazines are all kept up high and are not available for viewing (or so all the signs say).
Best bet is to visit the mandarake stores and look for the old stuff. There was a place in Nakana (Broadway at Nakano) that had a couple of stores full of old magazines, time just wasn't on my side searching them all out. that is your best bet. Not to mention the manga museum use to be nothing but a rental store at one point before the owner died and turned it into a 'library' so everyone could enjoy them. It's a quite interesting story, but unless we find someone with it, chances are pretty slim.

Are you talking about the one in Kyoto? You could request to get copies from the curator, but like I said, it's probably going to be very expensive.
Despite having two or three friends in the Tokyo area, they are all VERY busy with other things. So I can't very well ask them to go out and search the stores frequently for what will inevitably be a large purchase with shipping. Without Japanese correspondents who are easy to contact and have lots of free time for doing favors, it will be very difficult to obtain the manga.
