Trigun is an awesome anime. You should finish watching it if you haven't already. Outlaw Star is another good one. If you like scifi and gunfighting, then you'd probably like it.

I really can't stand anime and manga. I hate the style and find it way overpopular and overrated. My only exceptions are:

Manga:
Akira

Anime Movies:
Akira
Ghost in the Shell(1st one)
Princess Mononoke

I've never gotten into watching Anime shows.

I think I've seen Akira but I'm not sure, I'll go rent it though, it sounds good.
If I have seen it before I might as well see it again. :3

An excellent Anime movie for the fantasy fans is Howl's Moving Castle. Studio Ghibli dominates.

Eh, I think Howl's Moving Castle is Ghibli's weakest work-

Actually, second weakest.

If you ever go to Veoh.com, and watch Tales of Earthsea...

YYYgh!
Now there is a terrible Ghibli movie. And made by Miyazaki's son, no less!

But I'd recommend Whisper of the Heart, Porco Rosso, and Princess Mononoke over Howl's Moving Castle any day.

One of these days I mean to see Ponyo, though.

C'mon guys, don't forget Spirited Away.

Although I guess pretty much everyone knows about that anyway.

I need to see every Ghibli movie. It's on my list of things to do before I graduate.

There was this one anime movie I hated "Tekkon Kinkreet". Me and my friend kept on hearing about how good it was, and then we rent it, and I was really disappoint.

Actually I haven't really seen many Anime Movies. My favorites are the two Appleseed ones, but that's about it, I still need to see the Ghost in the Shell one.

One of my favorite anime movies is Castle in the Sky. I have rewatched it at least 3 times and it doesn't get old.

Castle in the sky and Whisper of the Heart are my favorite Ghibli films. I did like the others, but my top two are those.

I made the mistake of buying that on a friend's advice. The art direction was interesting, but the writing was extremely sophomoric.

Like pretty much 90% of all anime, right?

My brother, who is a bigger anime fan than I am, likes to rant about just how terrible the Japanese are at storytelling when it comes to anime.
His examples are Ergo Proxy, Darker than Black (in which the final 10 seconds ruin a two-season series), Paranoia Agent, and several others.

I'd have to agree with him for the most part. In terms of crafting large over-arching narratives, a lot of series more often than not fall flat on their asses but continue to trudge forward, leaving a bloody trail in their wake.
Lots of people point to the latter half of Death Note as an example of such happening. If you want generally sophomoric writing, says I, look no further than s-cry-ed. Funnily enough, my brother actually likes that series, but I cannot stand it.
Then again, I like FLCL and he thinks it's vastly overrated and kinda shoddy.

I thought s-cry-ed was pretty good IMO. I'll admit there are plenty of bad examples of anime, but there is plenty of good anime out there. You just haven't been looking at the right ones, depending on your tastes.
