Re: You know when you suck when....
Wow-- And I thought my GBA was crappy because the backing for the batteries broke. At least all of my buttons are usable. --I feel sorry for you guys. I also second the motion of using your DS, a GBA emulator, or GameCube GB/GBA player. -- Best perchance for my GC ever--! ;D |

Re: You know when you suck when....The shoulder buttons on the GBA / DS are pressure sensitive and seem to be far more prone to the negative effects of wear and tear then the other aspects of the systems. This also seems to be the case with other systems controllers. I remember having frequent problems with the shoulder buttons on the SNES sticking and the same buttons one the PS not being sensitive enough. When my SP started giving me trouble I just cracked it open and tightened a few bits. I can't tell you how many times I've had to breakdown a controller or keyboard just to solve some minor irritance. It can be fun though, seeing how these things work from the inside out.
Back on topic: The worst moment in a video game that I've had (least ways that I can remember) was in fact not long ago, a year or so. I had been stricken with the urge to run through SM again for the billionth time, so I proceeded to hunt down and dig out my old, original SNES and the nessassary components. The hunt alone was maddening, however my younger brother and his friend wanted to play through the game and rather than sit them down infront of my computer I decided since I had the actual hardware that the least I could do was set it up for them. Well, after 3 days of hunting, cleaning and fixing, all the while having to put up with two rambunctious and frenquently annoying little children, the hardware was finally set up. We played the game and good times were had by all. Later, a couple days or so, I was playing SM myself, as the boys had grown tired of it and moved onto other fare such as DK and Mario, and I was growing unnecessarily frusterated with it. I wasn't acustomed to the SNES controller, as I hadn't played the damned thing in years, I was spoiled by comparason with my highly responsive Logitech PC controller. So there I am, holed in my dark little room, ocasionaly grunting ang growling like some otherworldly abyssal beast, trying my best to break sequence in Brinstar, something I've done a million times before on the computer, and failing miserably. Needless to say, anger got the best of me and next thing I knew I had not one controller but rather several... smal broken peices of one. Afterwords I managed to track down a replacement and ultimately gave the console and it's entire game library to my brother, who proceeded to piss me off by promptly giving at all away to his friend. The ungratefull little bastard! In any case, there you have it, my worst case suck story. The last metroid is in captivity. All's well in the galaxy.

Re: You know when you suck when....Huh, that's actually weird if you ask me, I've always considered the original controller to be more responsive
Also, your brother needs to learn what a real game is. Don't tell me he owns a PS3. |
|
Re: You know when you suck when....No, I do. He's nine, the only thing he owns is a DS Lite, and technically our only opperable 360, but he doesn't quite know that. The boy spends most of his time fiddleing with Doom (and Doom Builder) and Gary's Mod, both of which he's startlingly proficient with. The kids also, not surprisingly, a monster at Halo. You think it's bad getting whiped by a smack talking 12 yearold halfway around the world? Try getting killstreaked by a cocky 9 yearold sitting right next to you! (Oh, the shame!)
I own nearly every system, or did rather I did, (now save for my former SNES) with the exception of the god awfull VirtualBoy. If there's one thing I can say about my "MiniMe" it's that he's rather well versed in the older consoles. No quite as well as myself, or most people who grew up with them as I did, but still far more than most kids his age. Seriously, though, this kid kicks my ass in ways to shameful to imagine. And I'm no old man! (I'm only 22) The last metroid is in captivity. All's well in the galaxy.

Re: You know when you suck when....Wow. A 9 yearold who's probably better than me at Halo. Oh, the agony.
But then again, my dad beats me at Quake III and he's 43. |

Re: You know when you suck when....
I'd buy one, but my dad stole the GC once he found out the wii played GC games. |
|
Re: You know when you suck when....There's still PC emulators.
Also, I remember hearing something about a homebrew GBA emulator for the Wii? |
|
Re: You know when you suck when....My comp doesn't even run the games it's pre-installed with.

Re: You know when you suck when....Gawd... my worst and most shameful moment was Quadraxis. I died within 30 seconds from that damn tornado move. One of my friends was there and started laughing at me "I thought you the Metroid guy". I handed him the controller and he beat the damn thing third try... A guy that only ever played some of prime 1. Needless to say that was a long night of insults. I still have trouble on Quadraxis to this day. I mean he's a 500 foot tall possessed death robot spider thing... that lives when his body and head separate. last time I checked, that isnt normal.
From the depths of hell erupted the chaotic knight, the right arm of Zafuuron...the hand of war. His name will be forever in the tortured minds he has damned, Excavion Traus... The Bless'd Death.

Re: You know when you suck when....
Kinda weird, considering it's a Mac. Also, hint: most GBA emulators don't need as much resources as PC games.
Yeap, good eye lol. |
