Hello there! n_n/
I've been working on translating bits of the Metroid Manga on my own since I found the Database, but I was holding back on getting serious about translating until I found this thread:
http://messageboard.tokyopop.com/forums ... php?t=2597
Appears Tokypop isn't going to grace us with the manga ever.. so it's up to us!
I took two years of Japanese and I have a couple friends who can probably help me with some of the more metaphorical phrases and sentences. I don't have problem with basic translation (the two years I had plus an incredible stubbornness to figure out what it says means I can get the gist of a clump of words unless it's metaphorical or a cultural phrase).
So um! Here to offer my services! n_n/
I also play Samus Aran at Econtra, a Livejournal RP site, so I have personal reasons for wanting to get this done.
Also.. is the third volume out? If it is, maybe I can have a friend in Japan find it at a BookOff! and send it to me. I kinda want the books anyway now that I've found out they're not coming over here ever.
Um, you can call me ZB. n_n

Find the third book and glory will be yours! Though, at this point I have seen no real evidence of the book's existence. Still, there are some that claim that it does.
As for the translations, it looks as though that will be handled by the scanlation group. However, it may take some time for them to finish that project. So in the meantime, it would be nice if someone else would be interested in translating or summarizing some of the more important parts of the manga for us. That way we can have at least a general idea of what is going on in the story without having to wait forever for the details.

Yeaaahh.. I posted this before higher powers than I intervened and the scanalations went through.
I'm really glad someone else is translating it.. I am not at all up to the level of work this sort of thing needs.
If only I had known about this manga when I was last in Japan!! I would have scoured the Book Off!'s for it!!
I'm going to see if my friend who's there right now can get a hold of it though.
EDIT: Oh! I would love to try and give ideas of what I think is going on, though. (Using translation materials and my knowledge of Japanese of course, not just guessing. )

So are you volunteering this thread as a sort of "free preview channel" until the scanlations are finished then?

Haha! Yep! I guess you could call it that! Though no guarantees on giving the exact the meaning that the scanalations people will be able to come up with. I took two years (and spent two weeks in Japan) and I'm great at basic translations.. but I have problems with parts that are cultural sayings or metaphors that don't mean anything translated exactly.
I'll do my best though!

I personally don't have any problem with multiple people working on this - I mean, the images are up and open so anyone can take a crack. I'd just hate to see somebody's hard work get completely ignored because somebody else wants to do it all themselves.
I'm going to hope volume 3 of the manga exists. It would sure as hell explain Robot Ridley.

Does anyone still want me to do some basic rundowns of what's going on in the manga? I'll have some free time during Christmas Break!

I would appreciate it if you would take a look at the last couple of pages on volume 16. I want to know if they explicitaly state that that is the end of the Manga or if they imply that there is a third book that comes after it, ie. saying "to be continued..." or something along those lines.

I believe there are only two volumes. The end of the second one ends with 'metoroido kan' which basically means 'Metroid end'. Since the first book doesn't end with anything like that, and I've looked on ebay a couple times now and only found two volumes, that these are the only two out, and they were meant to be that way.
My friend, who's been studying Japanese for four years now and is currently living in Japan, also thinks that's what this means.

Well shoot. Then I guess we'll never get an explanation for where Robo Ridley came from.

Anyway, YES, please write up some chapter summaries to hold us over until the full scanslation is finished! Thank you very much!

Well according to my wife, there is a third book; however, it was discontinued/out of print now so finding it is extremely hard. Now I don't know how accurate her finding is as I was not able to take a look at the website she was referring to. The third book goes for about 80 bucks and she's only found it on the publisher's website (leads me to believe that she is valid in her find since it was from the publisher) If anyone else has a means to browse to the publishers site, an easy end to this question

I am sure we can raise 80 bucks + shipping, if necessary. I volunteered 15 in the other thread( to get her the first two books, before Samethard’s generous offer was made) though my last post on the matter was removed, apparently it was found contentious, though I don’t see how. But, anyway, that still stands, and I know we are all eager to see it happen, I’m sure if everyone chips in the change from between the couch cushions and whatnot, we can make this happen.

Oops. Well.
I'd much rather be wrong about this!
Otherwise the story just sort of cuts off...
I'm glad you wife found it somewhere sharonlover!

I'm an artist, and by nature we generally don't have much spare cash, so I'm sorry to not be able to support this cause monetarily...
Just think of it though... a whole 'nother third of this story out there for the reading... Actually, I haven't really looked at too much of the manga up now, aside from the e-manga translation, because I'd like to get the full impact aftert the scanlation occurs.
Obviously, I'm very eager. The best luck with the pontential issue #3!
