A call for help: Metroid Prime enemy screenshots

Postby Infinity's End » 08.12.10 1:11am

Help is no longer needed at this time. Thanks for your interest!
Hey guys...

So this is a large request and a call for help for the almighty MDb.
We are going to be adding a fairly large new feature to the MDb sooner or later, and I need direct-feed screencaps of all the enemies from Metroid Prime. That's right, all the enemies from Metroid Prime in a direct-feed screenshot. Though we do have the scan visor panels, I feel this isn't really enough to satisfy me, as I would much rather have a real 3D model or a nice, clear screenshot to work with.

I just feel this is kind of a lot of work and I'd really appreciate some help on doing this.
If you are able to help or provide some in-game screencaps in any way, please PM me or post in here.

Some suggestions for getting screencaps:
  • Get the Metroid Prime iso and use the Dolphin Emulator. Play the game with a 100% save file and get some screencaps. (Though this wouldn't allow you to get all of them -- there are enemies that only occur once like bosses and 1-timers.)
  • A video capture card of some kind that will allow you to just hook your Wii/Gamecube right up to a computer and take real-time screenshots of game footage as you play.
  • Turn Visor and Helmet Opacity to 0.
  • Try to keep the Arm Cannon out of the way of the enemy (Clarity is key!)
  • If you can get a cool, clear shot during one of the game's cutscenes, ALL THE BETTER.
However, if you know where I can find ripped 3D models/textures of all the enemies from the game, by all means...
Those who want to help will be immortalized on the MDb for all eternity. And you'll feel good about yourself in a million different ways.

Thanks for your time.

or a nice, clear screenshot to work with.

Yeah, it's that annoying "R9WiLdShOt" guy:

Do we have to use direct-feed? :-?

Metroid Prime 1 is my first ever Metroid game and I love sight seeing in it. My HD camera and HD TV (Wii progressive scan) will make one of the clearest images for a camera-in-front-of-a-TV thing. I had experience posting youtube vids of my Boss fights. I have all boss fights in Metroid Primes 2 and 3 but I had no time posting them into Youtube due to High School overwhelming me with work.

This is the only way I can make an apology from my out of control post-spamming (I read the rules twice but I just got carried away by yammering on).

Clarity is the #1 main concern. I want to be able to count the polys. Unless you can prove to me otherwise, I don't think using camera and taking a shot off of a TV screen will work so well.

Again, unless you can prove me wrong...

Okay, here's the plan, I'll take a snapshot sample for you and see if you like it or not. Again, this is the least I can do, I don't have that screen-direct-feed mod thing and I don't plan on risking any harm to my gamecube or Wii for it. It's sounds like a pathetic idea, I know, but it's SOUNDS bad. My camera is 12.1 megapixels and the room is pitch black except the Philips HD TV. It's A LOT better than you'd think.

Again, I'll send you a sample pic since you're doubtful, but how do I do that? E-mail? I don't know how to post pix on this forum (and I've tried countless times). So how can I get it to you?

Or if it's a really big picture just link to it (paste the URL between URL tags instead of image tags).

Well . . . . I can't do that. Soon as you said ".us" I can't do it anymore, it's a legal thing and I'm only 16 years old. Can I get Infinity's End's e-mail instead? I'm sure everyone has a junk e-mail address for virus :X: and spyware :X: safety (I have one!)

Why the fuck couldn't you use .us websites if you're underage? Seriously, that's got to be one of the dumber things I've heard on the internet.

EDIT: Also, http://www.tinypic.com/ and http://www.photobucket.com/ are all image hosting sites as well.

I had no clue kids actually obeyed laws online, let alone nonexistent ones. Just stay away from child porn and cracking; and you'll be fine.

Anyways, what kind of system specs would I need to emulate Gamecube?

If my system is powerful enough to emulate Prime well, I'll try to dig through my junk to find my TV/Video input card.

I have tried playing Metroid Prime on the Dolphin Emu. You need one hell of a good PC for it. Or I was doing something wrong...

nonetheless I will try.

Ehh-heh (that's little gay there) . . . . if you can do better than my camera then by all means, do it. I offered because nobody posted any volunteers here and left Infinity's End hangin'

Dolphin does take quite a bit of power to run at full speed. I remember hearing you need 10 times the processing power of the Wii, so if the Wii is about 400mhz...

400 MHz x 10 = 4 GHz. Current gen CPUs can handle that.
